Vernard Goud with DJ VH1 and his word on the Lady Ga Ga | DJ VH1 | fashionspot.com Night

A few months ago I was asked by New York City based Fashionspot.com editor Andrea Grant to hold a special event in Vancouver, showcasing her friend the Lady GaGa Producer and DJ Brendan Sullivan aka "DJ VH1." Since I produce some of Vancouver's most eclectic, stylish and cutting edge New York/London style events I could not refuse this great offer of course! So I ended up booking the fantastic DJ VH1 for November 5, here in Vancouver at The red room nightclub.

My main objective at any of my events is generally to ensure that people have a fun, unusual and interesting time. The word "ordinary" is not part of my vocabulary as I always like to push the limits when it comes to creativity at most of the events I produce. I am happiest if I can strike a nerve in people and avoid the "status quo" if at all possible. Lady GaGa, is in my opinion an updated female version of my hero David Bowie ( and who is her idol as well!). So, who better to ask than me? My inspirations for my events generally stem from: David Bowie, Andy Warhol, DaDa and the Bauhaus Art movements, the Avant-Garde, European coffee houses, Brian Eno, European/Japanese fashion, make-up past & present, New York, London, Studio 54, the New Romantic movement with Steve Strange, Berlin, Lou Reed, Aphex Twin and other cutting edge electronic music. Locally, I am inspired by the amazing art, music and mindset of Jim Cummins aka "I, Braineater", the clothing designs of Nancy Black Perreault, art by Michael Venus, Hair styles by "Avant-Garde", Phil Western (Plateau) and anyone else who pushes the boundaries of creativity in any form.

New Image College is such a place.I was kindly offered their make-up services at what turned out to be an amazing event. The beautiful and talented New Image student Tina Baloochestany (with her cameraman sidekick Amir Aghelnejad) interviewed myself, Nancy Black, Jim Cummins and others throughout the evening, and the very professional result can be found on Youtube. The handful of fantastic New Image make-up artists did an amazing and boundary pushing job on many of the designer's models.

This very special evening had 6 local designers and all of them very different from one another. This is the way I wanted it to be. I like my events to be a "tossed salad" of designers and people. (quote from Studio 54's Steven Rubell) I find that only one kind of crowd is extremely boring and dull thus this evening there were people from every walk of life including everyone involved. When walking into the Red Room the crowd was met by the hunky underwear wearing models from Sweat Undergear and Vancouver Fashion E-Zine's Marilyn Wilson. "JK Models" provided the models for Project Runway's Kim Cathers ( Kdon) and the beautiful designs by Salgaldo. The beautiful actress Daniella Evangelista made a special appearance for Salgaldo designs and the class and poise she had on the runway could be felt in the entire room. Dorinha Jeans wear had her Pollock inspired Jeanswear on the catwalk which was followed by Vancouver's most creative overall artist Jim Cummins. Mr Cummins surprised the fashion-conscious crowd by mockingly strutting and singing his own song on the runway with his scantily dressed Braineater girls in tow. The Braineater girls threw out the new t-shirt designs into the crowd while Jim threw the crowd into a frenzy. Like the Georgia Straight review said: "Jim stole the show this evening" and like I said "if you want different I will deliver!" Nancy Black Perreault followed Jim 's wild and crazy antics and her show kept the crowd on their feet. One must see the pictures to see for yourself! The final designer was Project Runway's (2009) semi-finalist Kim Cathers who really did an amazing job with her beautiful designs. She was rightfully pleased with the show's result as she smilingly pumped her fists at the end!

Then it was time for the main headliner. Lady GaGa DJ VH1! MC TJ Note made sure everyone knew that it was VH1 time!!!! He delivered a set never before heard in all of Vancouver. Crazy classic rock music remixed with wild dance beats. Somehow it all worked and the crowd danced and danced while Sir VH1 grinned the whole time as he watched his disciples on the floor dance the night away. Everyone was happy, DJ VH1 loved the Vancouver crowd and hopes to return to Vancouver in the next few months! I will keep you all tuned. All I can say is... watch out for LuvnGrace Entertainment in 2010! Many things are planned and they will be unlike anything Vancouver has ever seen. Hopefully I will be able to take New Image College along on many of next years planned ventures!
