PROJECT SYNOPSIS

She Stoops to Conquer, by Oliver Goldsmith, adapted by Joan Bryans.
A comedy all about love and mistaken identity. It revolves around Charles Marlow, a young bachelor who brims with confidence when dallying with working-class women but becomes a shivering bundle of nerves in the presence of high-born ladies. When Marlow unexpectedly runs into, Kate, the woman his father wants him to marry, he’s so terrified, he can’t even look at her. So Kate decides to don the unthreatening guise of a barmaid, stooping in social status to conquer his heart. Add a scheding son of the house who convinces the gity gents that they are in an inn rather than the future father-in-law’s country estate and mayhem ensues.

Additional Comments:

She Stoops to Conquer is a big boisterous, fast moving, mélange of misunderstandings and fun. Everything is slightly overblown and big. Actors should keep this in mind when auditioning.
